But doesn't this still give a 500' run?  It seems that this equates to
splicing the two lengths together, albeit in the hub rather than one
"spliced" Ethernet run.  I seem to recall that some network interfaces might
not be able to drive the signals past 100 meters.  It's almost that one
would need a repeater or extender.  Category 6 cables are often made with
larger wire, say 23 gauge.  That might squeeze some extra distance.
