Doubtful that you'll ever violate the laws of physics (do you work for 
Vivato or sumptin?), but you're welcome to try.

Hey, I do this too, my left elbow is about 40cm from a 1W 802.11 
transmitter, which is on, (why yes, it does cover the condo nicely) and 
probably doesn't have enough calibration in it to be legal when operated 
at the band edges, but I try to not put illegal stuff into the market.

Otoh, violating the law of the land can mess up your whole day.

Metrix are good guys, Goodness knows that we tangle some, for all the 
typical "spy .vs spy" (read: vendor) reasons.

The RF section of the metrix products are either senao 2511MP miniPCI 
(Intersil) or wistron CM-9 miniPCI cards (Atheros).  You can get those 
any number of places.   The boards are Soekris, and the pigtails, etc 
are available in a number of places as well.

Metrix's value is that they have sourced a nice enclosure or two, and 
have all the pieces you might want in one place. Well, all the pieces 
but antennas, assembly and certification.  Matt and Rob seem to think 
that not supplying antennas or assembly will excuse them from the legal 
aspects around FCC compliance, and the $10k per occurrence fines that 
could result.

It won't, but I don't think the FCC is going to stamp on their parade 
anyway, so it doesn't make any difference in the end.

Won't be me.  I'd rather have Matt and Rob in the market than a lot of 
the others who outright lie about what their products will do. 
Matt-n-Rob are honest, and have corrected every mistake on their product 
pages that I've ever pointed out.  (And they are invited to shoot back, 
since I view this type of competition as only good for the market, as 
well as community wireless.)

Mr. Party Pewper (P)rants agrees that you should avoid the Sveasoft crap 
like the plague.  Mr. PPP also emphatically agrees that OpenWrt and Ewrt 
are cool, and thinks these are actually cooler than Pebble, which is 
nuthin but a cut-down debian hack.

Hey man, I wouldn't even vote for him when he was running for state 
office, (and I swing to the right on oh, so many things), but this is 
dangerously close to a political rant, in a wireless group.

The reason to avoid Mr. Ewing (Sveasoft) is that he's a GPL rip-off, and 
he knows it, and this is why he's such a nut-job about the subject.
