For those who feel timid I would suggest www.skype.com
For 10 EUROs you can buy Skypeout credits which you have to spend within 180 days.
The prices are a bit higher (20%), but for the occasional user on vacation or at university
it might do the trick when phoning home or anywhere.
Skype to Skype is free.
The software is cross platform and the most interesting for some 
would be the presence of software for the Pocket PC.
The sound is great, but it is a bit hefty on bandwidth.
The better sound proves popular with those more private conversations.
Downside: There is no number to dial into yet.

I think it is about time to move our friends over to IP-telephony and save dollars :-)
It has reached a certain "maturity" level - I keep getting calls from Mature ladies in Brazil and
young girls in Estonia :-)
Time to let go of  Ma Bell :-)

Several of my friends have kicked the habit of landlines.
I never had a landline :-)
