There will be WiMAX systems available for 5.8 GHz soon unlicensed but not for 900 or 3.65-3.7 GHz because those will require a different MAC. Licensed spectrum is the priority. Unlicensed faces power limitations and congested spectrum that limits attractiveness to developers. There is some talk from reliable sources that we are still at least 1 year + from unlicensed fixed WiMAX. My understanding is that the current 16d specs wont work in unlicensed and we may have to wait for a standard called 16h (yes h) to use fixed WiMAX unlicensed gear. anybody got anymore info on this?
