Out of curiousity: what was the reason to change? The dependency on 
other libraries? The zeroconf package also relies on a script and other 
tool (in this case the /bin/ip program, which can be found in /sbin/ip 
on Red Hat by the way).

Also, I just did a few tests, and found out that the zeroconf package 
does conflict detection when it is just started, but as soon as an IP 
has been configured, it does receive (and report) conflicting ARP 
packets (= defined as packet with same source IP and different source 
MAC address). However, it does not reconfigure it's IP address.

I'll contact the author of the zeroconf package about it. Too bad he (?) 
can't get it in Debian sarge anymore (they just froze it).
