We've been running a Catalyst 6509 with dual-redundant SUP720-3BXL for 18 months now. The thing just works. I shopped several other devices as well. You might also take a look at the Brocade NetIron XMR. You can get one brand new for < $40K with redundant everything. They are sweet boxes. The only reason we didn't go with one of these is that we needed an obscure feature the 6509 had and the XMR didn't (involving q-in-q ethernet frames). For standard internet and mpls routing, the XMR is a fantastic box. You might also look at the Brocade NetIron CER. $14K gets you a sweet box. I don't think it has enough RAM for a full BGP table but you're not doing that now, anyway.. These are assuming you only need gigabit ethernet ports. The XMR supports OC12 and OC48 ports, the CER is strictly an ethernet box. I used Juniper in the lab too. They have some neat features but true L3 Ethernet switches with big routing tables blow Juniper away for price per port. On 04/28/2010 05:24 PM, Keith wrote: > We are buying a new router.
