RE: Education/Research alliances

Hello,

Many of the higher education research universities in the Boston, MA area
have created a gigapop for our Internet2 connection (www.nox.org) that also
serves as a local exchange point.  Its a great resource for us and for the
local ISPs who can avoid transit charges when their customers try to reach
our campus (and vice versa) and we're willing and excited about helping out
in the larger community.

Having recently (2 years) joined the ranks of the
education/research community, I have found some significant
benefits for the Utah regional exchange through affiliation
with the education/research community.

I'm curious how many other REPs have strong affiliations
with regional education/research institutions, or have
attempted to develop those affiliations?

Would your REP be willing to invest in developing those
relationships and engaging your local higher-ed institutions
in supporting your project?
