Sata probs

My friend bought a new computer with a SATA hard disk. He cannot install
ubuntu in that. During installation, it says "No hard disk" found. The
computer is from Compaq, 64 bit and the mother board is ATi. He tried the
latest ubuntu downloaded from the site.
