Installing Debian sarge on SATA

Guys,
 I have a compaq SR-1650Nx with AMD Athlon 64 3500+/ 250GB SATA HDD
i am trying to install debain sarge in it....unfortunately it is not
detecting my
HDD. the PC doesnt come with a driver disk.
the chipset is ATi. I tried installing fedora core 3 but with the same
result
Where will i find the correseponding SATA drivers?
