Also, are you qsure that this is a SATA problem and not chipset detection issue? Have you tried an ordinary EIDE Harddisk? Hmmm.... if it is the ATI chipset issue, try the following link:- http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-37947.html <quote> Try installing the ATI x64 driver for the Xpress 200P here, it may have support for the disk controller as well as graphics. https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBList.asp?folderID=1016 </quote> > i dont think anymotherboard manufacterer has a linux driver for it. > since mine is a branded machine they havent specified which make my > board is. i ran sisoft sandra from windows and found that the make > of the board is asus. but the funny thing is that asus have no ATi > chipset boards in the offering for AMD. It works just fine with windows XP 64 bit edition though. I > think it will be just a matter of finding the SATA drivers. The kernel has excellnt support for sata; I am myself running Debian (only main) on pure AMD64, Sarge, on MSI Neo M/B with VIA chipset - I expressly forbade my vendor from using any other chipset due to the h/w issues; and also took a knoppix CD along with me to test before taking delivery. -- Mahesh T.
