(Changing the topic a bit, but still somewhat related.)

Over the weekend I went to a Firefox OS app day workshop thing, they're
also producing a phone OS. You can fire up the simulator now, and over
the course of a few hours I had a prototype of my android app ported
across to it, and other people did cool things too. We all also won a
developer phone for demoing an app (that'll arrive next month some time
apparently.)

apps written for this will also work on android and iOS as browser
applications, and I think there will be the possibility of installing
them as a local app on android, through firefox but I don't think you
can right now. The apps are all HTML5, and there are APIs to give you
access to the lower-level phone functions (camera, GPS, etc.)

Annoyingly I sold my Galaxy Nexus about 2 days before Ubuntu announced
that they're going to be releasing an image for it, so I may have to
wait longer before I can give that a go, but it'd be interesting to play
with too.
