Definitely is an issue with Ubuntu 9.10 and not the modem.
It now refuses to connect to any LAN cable ( even tried a new NIC ) and 
now actually displays a "disconnected" icon when network manager is 
accessed. ( at least thats now accurate :)
I can run a 9.10 live cd and surf the net no problems - once installed 
however, we have these connection issues.

The fight continues.........
