If the group seeks to encompass the entire community as a whole, however, I see how arguments against university status could hold water, although nevertheless I think the pluses outweigh the minuses. I'm in favor of formal meetings: They provide one of the few opportunities I have for computer-related social interaction and discussion, and if anything my main complaint is that they're held irregularly and infrequently. I try to attend them and truth be told I'm not even a Linux user; I'm a Windows 95 user interested in learning about and transitioning over to Linux. Speakers and other "big" events are a good idea as well. As for the prospect of "informal" meetings, BW3 and the Moose are a bit out of my way and I never liked the food there.
