Phone call rip offs

As a community service we should warn our friends.

I received a phone call from India a while ago telling me I had a
problem with my windows setup and they were from Microsoft, after
stuffing them around for a while I then said I could not make their
software work on Linux.

I heard last night a similar phone call was done to a friend who is VERY
experienced in Windows who kept them going for about 1 hour.  They get
them to run a command in the command prompt then quote a CLSID that is
the same on every windows machine to 'prove' they have access to that
particular machine.  They then ask you to load a remote control app that
is a known trojan.  They then load a virus and get you to pay to remove
it and so on from there on.

So as a community service we should mention this scam to our unlucky
windows using friends and neighbours to ensure they are not caught (and
then we end up involved in the mess left behind).
