Also, it may help to know that Cygwin's setup program is not an compressed
archive of a fixed set of files.  Rather, it is a program that will help you
choose, download, and install your selection of particular programs and
libraries.  Cygwin is not a single monolithic thing but rather a library
(dll) that gives a POSIX(-like) interface to Windows functions and a
considerable pile of POSIX / Linux programs that have been adapted to use
that library.  You choose which programs (and any libraries they need)
to install, based on your needs.  The setup program provides a GUI
interface to go through the selection and installation process.
