FWIW, I doubt that this will happen. Python has always had portability
as a goal, so a dependency on particular compiler feature or version is
unlikely to be introduced. But I agree that it is unfortunate that the
dependency would be introduced for such a small piece of functionality.
If you are going to add the dependency, you should go ahead and build
everything with SCons. :-)
