I haven't put X on my Alpha yet, but if the error message says that
"libio is only available on bwx capable machines", I would assume you
need to have it...


A snippet from my Alpha's dmesg shows the BWX presence (a 500u). I
honestly don't even know what BWX is yet, but if I were you I'd try to
get X working without trying to use it, if that is possible.. Good
luck, sorry I don't know more.
