Fried SCSI controller?

I'm responding because no one else has.  I am familiar with the Ultra 60 
which is essentially the same machine as the 220R but I am not familiar 
with the specifics of the 220R's internal layout so please everyone be 
nice. :)


I would start looking in at the drive backplane and cables and perhaps a 
drive.  In my experience it is quite rare to loose a controller (in fact 
if you look closely the controller is telling you what might be wrong).  
The backplane in most cases contains the termination on the SCSI bus.  
You could test your controller pretty easily if you disconnected the 
internal backplane and had a JBOD to connect to the internal SCSI 
connection off of the SCSI controller.  If its able to see the JBOD 
likely your issue is somewhere on the bus itself being a drive, cable or 
backplane.  Many people don't realize this but scsi cables age over time 
and can start to fail.  The signal strength on the SCSI bus is critical 
to its functionality.  I have seen drives that won't respond to SCSI 
commands or that are really slow hang a SCSI bus as well.
