TOWARDS CARFREE CITIES XI CONFERENCE - Call for hosting proposals Dear carfree comrades, WCN's flagship event - the Towards Carfree Cities conference - could be held in your town or city in 2012! The procedure for applying to host Towards Carfree Cities X conference is simple. We request that you send a 2-4 page hosting proposal to this discussion list by 3 April 2011 with the following information: a. who you are; the organisation(s) you are with; b. the resources, skills and time at your disposal (fundraising, programme work, outreach, etc.); c. which groups would be partners and other useful contacts you have; d. why the conference should be held in your city; e. what you would like to occur at the conference (overall theme, aims and any programme details); f. approximate dates. Before submitting your proposal, please consult our Conference Organising Manual (http://www.worldcarfree.net/members/manual.php). If you are unable to access this document in the members-only area of the website, or have any other queries, please contact me via simon-eIl3k1piWmly0T758RiaJuG/[email protected] The exact nature of the relationship between WCN Global and the local host will be somewhat different to previous years - on account of the closure of WCN Europe's office - but the Steering Committee looks forward to working with and assisting the successful host however it can. Our principal requirement is that about half the content should be directly related to carfree cities or carfree living, to distinguish TCC from the many other conferences on transport, planning and/or sustainability. We strongly recommend looking through the conference archive at http://www.worldcarfree.net/conference/archive.php. Please note that the event does not have to follow the traditional 4-day format - we welcome proposals for shorter programmes. Please note that this list is set to reply to author by default, so please remember to change the address to carfree_network-/[email protected] before you hit send. This allows everyone to comment on the proposals as they come in. The Steering Committee will then discuss the proposals, ask further questions as necessary and make a final decision by the end of April. The deadline for applications is 3 April 2011. Good luck!
