I knew Chester back in the long-ago of 1963 - 64 when we were both members of the Boston Area Chapter of SDS.  
I ran into him again a few years back at a party, and have had sporadic emails with him since.

It is always nice to touch base, even at third hand, with an old friend!

I've today received a couple of notes from Chester Hartman of the really excellent publication, Poverty and Race.  I am indebted to Mr Hartman for a gift sub to that which he arranged about a year ago.  In this, the second note, he makes mention of a new and promising book on Labor, organizing, and civil rights. “A Civil Right to Organize” is the cover article in the Jan./Feb. Poverty & Race, a précis of the similarly titled new book, by Richard Kahlenberg & Moshe Z. Marvit. Accompanying it are short commentaries by civil rights leaders, academics and labor leaders – in the latter category, Larry Cohen of CWA, Randi Weingarten of AFT, and Leo Gerard of the Steelworkers.
