Not to brag but I can=E2=80=99t help sharing this picture that someone post=
ed on Facebook. It shows a receipt for cancer meds paid at a pharmacy in He=
lsinki a couple of weeks ago (actually our local pharmacy about 200 yards f=
rom our place).
Two items totalling around around 983 euros ($1127) , subsidised through a =
government agency, leaving 3 euros deductible per item. Total payable (YHTE=
ENS=C3=84 in receipt) 6.00 euros ($ 6.88). Seems he/she paid cash with a 10=
euro bill...
Of course it=E2=80=99s not free. I, among others, pay for it in my taxes he=
re, and the person concerned has contributed to it. But whenever I gripe ab=
out my taxes, and that=E2=80=99s about daily, it=E2=80=99s worthwhile refle=
cting on things like this.
Greece: Election-winning left-wing party Syriza is in an interesting situat=
ion, teamed up with a right-wing anti-immigrant party to run the gov=E2=80=
=99t. They didn=E2=80=99t accept the socialists of Pasok(former establishme=
nt) or the old communists (painted themselves in a corner. Greek minister o=
f finance doing the rounds in Europe negotiating a new and less insane deal=
for his country. Let=E2=80=99s see how the Germans react. The measures so =
far have been carried out to satisfy the banks and imposed austerity is rui=
ning the country. The new Greek minister of finance is a breath of fresh ai=
r.=20
