Incredibly tragic news has just broken: that Elizabeth has lost her fight
with cancer, after doctors announced yesterday that they were stopping
treatment.

Elizabeth Edwards has passed away after being diagnosed with breast cancer
in 2004. The 61-year-old wife of former Presidential candidate John
Edwards died at her home in Chapel Hill, N.C., at 10:15 AM, surrounded by family
and friends according to Raleigh news affiliate WDAM
The Edwards family attorney released a statement saying, ”Today we have
lost the comfort of Elizabeth’s presence but she remains the heart of this
family. We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life.
”
Elizabeth’s doctors announced Dec. 6 that continuing cancer treatment would
be “unproductive” for the 61-year-old. Elizabeth leaves behind three
children: Cate, 28, Emma Claire, 12, and son Jack, 10 — her eldest son Wade
died in a 1996 car accident.
HollywoodLife.com spoke with Dr. Harry D. Bear, a professor of oncology at
Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, who said that when cancer
spreads to the liver, “it’s clearly aggressive.” Dr. Bear also added that
for most patients with metastatic breast cancer, the “survival timeline is
often around three years.”
