 Kosova UN Rally



The rally at the UN was a great success in many respects. The event was very well organized and the message was clear - Kosova should be independent NOW. 



I wanted to share with you that the Boston / Worcester group made a great impression. We rented two buses, one of them left from South Boston, the other one from Revere. The one from South Boston picked up the Worcester group (and I think we had people all the way from Springfield MA) along the Mass Pike. We were at the plaza at 11:45 AM. We came out with signs, flags and above all, the most impressive sign of the whole event in my opinion - the Albanian flag was raised high in the air by helium balloons - a wonderful project of Ilir Begolli. As we were told by many people who were already in the plaza, the event really started when the Boston group arrived. People felt very emotional. The speeches were emotional - as expected, and some of them, like the one from Ambassador Holbrooke, were cautious about the potential risks before and after the independence is declared. 



All in all, the event was an important contribution the Albanian American community made to this great cause. I'd like to thank from the bottom of my heart the people who took the time and went to New York. Thank you! Also, this trip received a great deal of support from individuals (Sejfi Protopapa stands out for covering the expenses for one of the buses) and organizations (Saint George Cathedral being one of them). The list is long. I am sure Fatmir who has been so dedicated and thorough to this event will send a complete list with all the details. 



A big thank you goes to the Albanian Kosovar Society of Boston. This wonderful organization was instrumental in spreading the word, getting people to come, preparing the signs and offering all types of support. Great work, dear friends! I can only imagine what kind of party we are going to have to celebrate the declaration of Kosova's independence !!!
