Garmin GPSMap60c owners, question about auto-routing

To anyone who has a Garmin GPSMap60c (I think Beth melted one, right?) 
have you used the "autorouting" feature? I want to use the unit as a yahoomaps
type of thing, but the road resolution is either horrible, or I'm using it wrong.

I have CitySelect (or whatever) installed, so I have all the local roads and things,
but when I set a destination, it will give directions like "SE to Bayshore Highway" then
"E to I-280". But it doesn't tell you what "surface roads" to take. For instance, from my
house to, say Sunnyvale, instead of saying "East on 41st Ave" then "South on El Camino"
then "Left on Ralston" then "On-ramp to 101". It just says "SE to Bayshore" (I think Bayshore
is 101, but I was never sure). So it's as if it is calculating directions based on the simple
highways that were in the original freebie low res maps that came on the unit, instead of
the City Select High detail maps I downloaded...though it shows the side streets and names 
and when I search for a place, it even includes phone numbers, etc. So I KNOW the map 
info is in the unit, but it seems to fricken' stupid to use the streets.

I mean, If I'm going to road trip to New York, I want a bit more detail then "E to New York"!!!

Do yours work like this?
