It is more likely to be the power saving feature being enabled. As the 
R2 sits waiting for transmissions with its power saving feature on it 
listens to the frequency, then sleeps, then listens, then sleeps, 
gradually increasing the sleep time between each check. If you turn off 
power saving you should get a faster response.
