Re: BC 245

SmartScanner has been abandoned by Uniden for several years now. It didn't work well anyway - prone to crashing, sending bad information, disconnects...an idea that seemed good at the time but was a pure mess.

Unfortunately there aren't any programs for the 245 that connect to the RR database the way the newer scanner software can. Scan Control comes close - it has a copy/paste utility - but the more scanners they seem to put on it, the more unstable it has become. And from recent emails, Ken D. has little interest in supporting this old scanner. You could do the same thing with Excel (and some software packages) as long as the software you're using recognizes the Windows clipboard as a source (not all of them do). We have a procedure in the RR wiki for this.

A shame really. It would be very nice if someone were to pick up the old BC245Int (Senss) freeware, clean it up, put the RR SOAP interface in there. This software was really nice - if a bit quirky - in its day. Put the 895 in there (the firmware is very similar) with the 245, and you would have some very nice freeware for the old birds, some of which are still around...73 Mike
