You guys have all be AWESOME to me =E2=80=93 and so fast to respond etc.. I=
 did get the Radio Scanner Pro app =E2=80=93 Gordon =E2=80=93 it=E2=80=99s =
REALLY GREAT =E2=80=93 but =E2=80=93 I do want a scanner also =E2=80=93 now=
 the question is what to get. I really don=E2=80=99t want to spend a ton of=
 money =E2=80=93 I recently stupidly bought a used =E2=80=9Cbackup=E2=80=9D=
 245, since I had so much trouble getting what I wanted from the 346 =E2=80=
=93 of course that=E2=80=99s because I never tried the software until last =
weekend =E2=80=93 at which time I realized that the majority of the stuff I=
 want has now been moved to digital. Don =E2=80=93 I could list some older =
scanner models myself =E2=80=93 and I still have them all =E2=80=93 but not=
 in front of me! I think I had a 10 channel and maybe a 30 and then the 245=
 Trunk Tracker =E2=80=93 which eventually blew the speaker, but we took it =
out on boats in Lake George and in the car and it got bounced around.. so w=
e bought a busted one and took the speaker out- but then I got the 346 whi=
ch at this point =E2=80=93 while I, like someone else mentioned, will defin=
itely have and want more than one scanner =E2=80=93 sometimes I like to jus=
t leave one on my town or something and scan different things on another.=20

So =E2=80=93 now the big problem =E2=80=93 what to get. I guess I have to l=
ook up what HP-1 features are =E2=80=93 unless you can give me a quick expl=
anation.  Since my state =E2=80=9Cjust=E2=80=9D changed, I can=E2=80=99t im=
agine needing more than the APCO-25 for a long time.. However =E2=80=93 I s=
ee that the 396 came out back in 05.. and obviously the 436 is brand new.. =
However, I honestly probably don=E2=80=99t need more than what the 396 can =
do for me. I haven=E2=80=99t checked to see if my state police system is en=
crypted =E2=80=93 I guess I better do that =E2=80=93 and I supposed I can=
=E2=80=99t assume it=E2=80=99s not if it=E2=80=99s on that Radio Scanner pr=
ogram =E2=80=93 as the person broadcasting that could be decrypting it..=20

Don =E2=80=93 I see you had some issues w/your 396.. that really stinks.. I=
=E2=80=99m a little bit thinking of getting a used one =E2=80=93 although t=
hat=E2=80=99s not my style =E2=80=93 well, I did for parts and =E2=80=9Cbac=
kup=E2=80=9D =E2=80=93 but generally I don=E2=80=99t do that... but tax tim=
e is coming and we=E2=80=99re going to owe a lot of money.. UGH..=20

You might want to look at a BCD436HP. That comes after the HP1 and the 396x=
lt. The 436 HP is digital and can program by zip code. The price is close t=
o the 396, but for a better scanner. Lookit:

      http://info.uniden.com/twiki/bin/view/UnidenMan4/BCD436HP

I've had to replace the speaker on my 396xlt after 4 months. Never had that=
 problem with any other scanner and that includes my old R/S Pro 23.

own 245xlt, 246t, 396xlt.

That=E2=80=99s very interesting.. will it get the trunked stuff =E2=80=93 a=
nd the digital too?
I don=E2=80=99t care about =E2=80=9Cprogramming=E2=80=9D but I do want to b=
e able to just go to a locality and =E2=80=9Chold=E2=80=9D on it- although =
that=E2=80=99s mostly for my town, which I can do on all the scanners I alr=

I didn't mention it before but if you just want to listen without the progr=

You'll have to move up to at least the 396XT but you might want to check an=
d make sure state hasn't also gone to scrambled/encrypted. Local radio grou=
p should be able to tell you or a quick chat on Radio Reference site. As fa=
r as programing goes FreeScan is available for free and simplifies that cha=
llenge and with an account from RadioReference you can just download and up=
load whatever you want. When it comes to using the radio keyboard I usually=
 us it only for changes on the go and close call or search. Programing is j=
ust too time consuming when FreeScan can do it in minutes and the price is =
right.

Subject: [BC245XLT] APCO-25

Hi there,

I think my state (Mass) police changed to a Digital Trunking System. I can=
=E2=80=99t figure out what it=E2=80=99s exactly called, might it be APCO-25=
 or Project 25. That=E2=80=99s what=E2=80=99s listed in the =E2=80=9CType=
=E2=80=9D column on RadioReference, where other systems say Motorola or EDA=
CS. (I=E2=80=99m looking for the Commonwealth of Mass (Project 25) System. =
It=E2=80=99s listed here:

http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?stid=3D25&tab=3Dtrs

Does anyone know if I can program my BC 245XLT for this? and if not, anyone=
 here know if I can do this on a BC346XT?

Thanks much.
