Herman, I think that the main difficulty of this approach will be the EC commission to which it may be more difficult to justify a large consortium. Otherwise, I think that the solution of partial fundings to a large group will significantly leverage the development and will potentially put a larger group of people to work on this task. paolo > > Dear all, > > Before taking a final decision about which groups will be `official' > partners for OROCOS, I first want to have your opinion on the > following suggestion: what if we would take all 10+ interested > partners, and each gave them 0.5 man year/year + two brainstorming > travel grants? > > The advantages: > - more groups are actively involved, hence increasing the probability > of higher quality results. > - nobody has to feel by-passed. > - OROCOS is open source, so we will have to manage input from > many contributors anyway. > - from the start, OROCOS has been seen as a `partially funded' project: > partners are expected to put more man power in the project than the > amount of man months they are funded for. > > The disadvantages: > - a larger consortium brings more management. > - it might be difficult to hire people with only partial funding. > > Please let me know your feelings about this idea before the end of the > day (wednesday). > > Best regards, > > Herman > > -- > [email protected] > We hire Linux programmer: <http://www.mech.kuleuven.ac.be/~bruyninc/jobs> > > > _______________________________________________ > Orocos mailing list > [email protected] > http://mail.mech.kuleuven.ac.be/mailman/listinfo/orocos > -- ======== Paolo Fiorini, PhD Jet Propulsion Laboratory Dep. of Science and Technology California Institute of Technology University of Verona ph: +1 818 354-9061 +39 045 802 7963 fx: +1 818 393 5007 +39 045 802 7928 [email protected] [email protected] http://robotics.jpl.nasa.gov/people/fiorini http://www.sci.univr.it/~fiorini
