Hi Herman, We are interested by your initiative to create standardisation for common data types. As Brian described, we believe that this is not an easy task, knowing that many data represention can exist depending on which point of view you take. MARIE is actually more focused on high level data (Behaviors and Intelligence) and sensors representation. We are not necessarely interested in global consensus as we made effort in MARIE's design to be able to support a wide range of data format using different communication protocol, all together in the same system. But, we are very aware that to achieve communication and interconnectivity high performance, it would be easier if all system could share a common way to represent data. We have undertaken a C++ data library for our own needs. It is mainly used to have a common data representation for data in MARIE's components. We have created an XML data representation of this library as we're now using this format for data streaming (http://marie.sourceforge.net/en/Documentation.html#DATATYPES). It is a very preliminary work, but it might be useful for discussion. Note that we're supposed to move to the same data representation as Player for datatypes that can be shared, as it is "de facto" standard. And we agree with Brian : "To be clear, I don't mean to sound overly pessimistic about this idea; I just don't want to see a repeat of the RETF...."
