Debian sandbox build problems

Steve,

Having problem with a Debian sandbox build.
  $ ./autogen.sh
  aclocal: couldn't open directory `/usr/local/share/aclocal': No such file or directory

So I change line 9 in autogen.sh to read:

  aclocal -I /usr/share/aclocal

(which is where the expected m4 files seem to be on Debian)

But then I get:

  $ ./autogen.sh
  aclocal: configure.ac: 48: macro `AM_PATH_XSLT' not found in library
