Now I know what the problem is.
Cygwin Perl + XML::SAX::PurePerl parser.

With XML::SAX::Expat it runs fine now.
(I wasn't able to build XML::Parser before, because make fails with ash as 
/bin/sh as opposed to bash (grrr..))
