hi ekta,
  try this to repair ur internet explorer and windows
files
goto start -> run 
and type sfc /scannow
A window should open up that will say "checking file
system"
and then u will be asked to insert ur windows xp cd
so insert it in the cdrom drive when u get the message
and click ok
after 15-20 min or more the window will go away
automatically 

after that remove the temp internet files,cookies by

opening up IE browser and click on 
tools menu->internet options and then click on delete
cookies,delete files and clear history buttons 
u must remove these files in future atleast once a
week
