Hi Rafael,

I've done both with Baltimore PHP.  Specific amounts and food/drinks.  Money is my preference.  It allows me to do other things if we have money left over.  I've picked up books for giveaways, bought the first round at the bar, etc.  It helped pay for a shipment of elePHPants (not a lot, but it was better than all out of pocket).

We don't have a proper sponsorship structure, but what I'm attempting to do is approach companies (normally through regular members) and say "This amount of money will get you x".  Different amounts fetches you a different combination of things we have to offer.

I have a list of items that the group can provide companies:
- Mentorship for employees (If a member of your staff is getting help and guidance, give a little back so we can continue to be useful)
- Advertisement
	- Link on website
	- Sales pitch at the beginning of the meetup
	- Flyers, shirts, swag giveaways
- Job Candidates (We have a recruiter that takes advantage of this.  He's very unobtrusive, pays for drinks, and he makes the connections with the people in the area)
- Etc,

I'm still playing with the dynamics, and from what I've seen, every group differs a bit with what people are receptive to in the area.
