I normally do a mix of both slides and the stand up routine. We have about 30 minutes between the "doors opening" and when we get underway with the talk. I normally have announcements, sponsors, upcoming conferences, call for papers and local tech items on a rotating, looped slide deck during this time, then before the talk I'll talk through the major points on the announcement slides before handing the floor over to the main speaker.
