ok. There may be some related benefits in cross-platform compatibility 
that trickle down from this, however, which is why I inquire. :-)

I thought I recalled some chatter on this or a related list with regards 
to changes in File::Spec that someone was working on to 'normalize' the 
expected results... Perhaps not directly related to the MacOS but 
certainly to improve cross-platform compatibility.
